About Us

The Park-Port Lioness are a group of community minded women who pool their time and talents to serve others. The Lioness' attend meetings to determine how to best help their communities, individuals and families. Lioness is a non-profit organization. We are a Lions affiliated group and operate under that slogan of "We serve too".

In 1975, Harry J. Aslan, then President of the Lions International recognized the potential for ladies to join the ranks of Lions International by forming Lioness Clubs. An approved program to unite the women under a single name and emblem took place in October 1975 in Fresno, California where the International Board of Directors met. Sponsored by a Lions Club and enlarging the family of International Lionism, the birth of Lioness began.

In the end of 1975 our chapter was given life by the North Maplewood Lioness Club and started under the charter president Joan Clark. That year we had 30 members and our Current Lioness Liaison, Walter O. Noreen, was the District Governor at the time. Ladies of all ages are welcome to come join our club. Our current members range from age 23 to (now that would not be polite to tell you!)

The Park Port Lioness Club Supports the following (and more):

Sight Programs- Lions are striving to rid the world of preventable and reversible blindness. A majority of the world's eye banks are established and supported by Lions, as are hundreds of clinics, hospitals and eye research centers. Lions provide thousands each year with free quality eye care, eyeglasses and optical aids. They also recycle eyeglasses and support research for diabetes and diabetic eye disease.

Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF)- the foundation disburses funds in the form of grants for humanitarian services, disaster relief and vocational assistance.

Camps- Disadvantaged and disabled youths learn to better understand themselves, and are encouraged to positively accept the challenges they face.
